He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin, and completed both an internship and residency in general medicine at The University of Pennsylvania. He then completed two fellowships, one in Allergy and Immunology and one in Nephrology and Immunology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital of Harvard University, respectively. He is board certified in both internal medicine and allergy and immunology. His research, which amounts to over 100 original papers and 200 abstracts, editorials, and reviews is widely published, appearing in multiple journals including the Journal of Immunology, Journal of Allergy Asthma and Immunology. He went on to complete an Internship at West Virginia University Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry and a fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has been quite prolific with his writing serving as an editor of numerous special issues in multiple journals, authoring or co-authoring well over 180 peer reviewed publications. Additionally, he has served as co-chief editor of the international, peer reviewed neurorehabilitation journal since 1991 and also as co-chief editor of the official scientific journal of the International Brain Injury Association since 2002. He earned his M.D. and a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from the University of Chicago. The expert spent the major part of his career in academia including positions as a professor of pathology and vice chairperson of the department of pharmacological and physiological sciences at the University of Chicago, as the chair of the department of pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and as an endowed professor of pathology and neurology at Emory University. he has coauthored over 140 publications and is a member of several relevant medical associations, including the American Association of Investigative Pathology, the American Association of Neuropathologists, and the International Academy of Pathology.
